Overview
The University of Manitoba is a public research university in Winnipeg, Manitoba, established in 1877 as Western Canada's first university.
It enrolled 31,922 students in Fall 2025, of whom 27,372 were undergraduates and 3,771 graduate students; international students made up 19.7 per cent of the population and came from 123 countries. Academic work is organised across 13 faculties, four schools and nine colleges offering more than 250 programs of study, including over 100 undergraduate and close to 150 graduate prograMs. The university operates two main campuses, Fort Garry in south Winnipeg and Bannatyne in the city's health sciences district, alongside satellite sites elsewhere in the province.

Research activity drew $246 million in sponsored research income in 2024 and the university holds 59 Canada Research Chairs across more than 50 research centres and institutes. Employment stood at 10,457 faculty and staff in 2024-25, and the alumni body numbers roughly 228,000 people in 137 countries.
