This program leads to a Bachelor of Education (BEd) from the University of Ottawa, preparing students to teach at the junior/intermediate level (grades 4 to 10) and leading to a recommendation for certification by the Ontario College of Teachers, valid in Ontario schools where English is the language of instruction. The two-year, full-time program is designed to develop knowledgeable, skilled and reflective teaching professionals capable of working in partnership with the wider community. Students study educational theory and current research alongside instruction in contemporary teaching approaches and skills, applying what they learn through field studies and two practicum placements in junior and intermediate division classrooms. Compulsory coursework covers topics such as schooling and society, teaching language arts, social studies, science and mathematics at the junior division, curriculum planning, and learning theories in inclusive classrooms, with optional courses addressing areas including equity in education and technology integration. The program is offered in English only.
