Overview
This undergraduate program leads to an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Arts, offered in English and French. The program examines the origins, structure and workings of language, including how meaning is encoded, using research laboratories to analyze spoken sounds, eye movement and brain activity during language processing, and to explore language variation and acquisition across familiar and unfamiliar languages. It can serve as an entry point to graduate study in speech-language pathology or audiology, as well as to further graduate study in theoretical and empirical linguistics. The 120-unit curriculum is organized into basic-skills, compulsory, optional and elective course units, completed over four years of full-time study. The course list totals 120 units: 12 units of Basic Skills, 60 units of compulsory courses, and 48 units of optional and elective courses.
