The Honours BSc Physics and BASc Electrical Engineering is a five-year integrated program offered jointly by the Department of Physics and the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa, totalling 159 units. The program combines a full physics curriculum with electrical engineering training, allowing students to choose among specializations in communications, systems, electronics, microwave and photonics, or power and sustainable energy. Graduates are intended to move from a physics-based understanding of a technology through to its development as a finished product, preparing them for roles in industry and academia. The physics component covers the fundamental laws of nature underlying technologies used across sectors, while the electrical engineering component builds applied and technical skills. The program is offered in English and in French, though some advanced courses are offered only in English. Co-operative education is available, and a French immersion stream is offered.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 4U (ENG4U) or Français 4U (FRA4U), Advanced Functions 4U (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors 4U (MCV4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), and Physics 4U (SPH4U); Biomedical Mechanical Engineering additionally requires Biology 4U (SBI4U). The published minimum admission average is 80%, with a minimum combined average of 70% required across the science and mathematics prerequisite courses specifically. This line applies uniformly across Biomedical Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering and their combined-degree variants with BSc Computing Technology, as well as the civil-engineering structural/geotechnical and environmental/water-resources options, since the Faculty of Engineering publishes one admission line per base discipline regardless of the option chosen within it. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission in a competitive cycle.
