The Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering is offered jointly by the University of Ottawa and Carleton University through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Civil Engineering (OCICE), established in 1984. Students draw on professors, courses, and facilities at both universities, while enrolling at the institution of their thesis supervisor. The program covers construction engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, sustainable materials, and water resources engineering. It is completed on a coursework basis, culminating in either a capstone project or additional graduate coursework, within two years of full-time study. The joint structure gives students access to a wider range of specialized courses and research facilities than either institution offers alone, and the degree equips graduates with advanced technical knowledge across the major sub-disciplines of civil engineering for professional or research-oriented careers.
