Catholic Studies is a minor offered through UPEI's Faculty of Arts that provides an academic and scholarly exploration, open to students of any background, of Catholicism's historical development and its ongoing engagement with contemporary Western and global issues. The minor is built around one core course, RS 1710, followed by two courses chosen from a set of second-year options and two from third-year options, plus two further elective courses; at least two of the seven courses taken overall must be at the 3000 level. Coursework draws on the Department of Religious Studies' broader offerings in theology, history and philosophy of religion, situating Catholic thought and practice within wider religious and cultural currents. As a minor, Catholic Studies is intended to be paired with a major program of the student's choosing, adding a focused academic grounding in Catholic history, doctrine and contemporary relevance alongside a primary field of study.
