Program details

Overview

The PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy is offered by the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. The program is devoted to the study and development of policy, leadership, change and social diversity in elementary and secondary schools, with a focus on equity, anti-oppression and educational justice in K-12 education systems. The degree is a four-year, full-time research program culminating in an original dissertation developed with a faculty supervisor that applicants secure themselves after admission rather than before applying; there is no direct-entry route from a bachelor's degree into this program, so applicants enter from a completed master's degree.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a master's degree with a minimum A-minus average for admission to the PhD; there is no direct-entry route from a bachelor's degree. Applicants are not required to secure a supervisor before applying — admission is not conditional on having one, and accepted students arrange supervision with the department after admission.
