Overview

The PhD in Philosophy at the University of Toronto's Department of Philosophy is a research degree in a department recognized as an international leader in the history of philosophy, particularly ancient and medieval philosophy, as well as ethics, philosophy of science, and philosophy of mind. The standard program takes four years of full-time study with a six-year time limit; direct entry from a bachelor's degree is available and extends the program to five years with a seven-year limit. Delivery is in person. Standard admission (from a master's degree, normally an MA in philosophy) requires an average grade of at least A-; direct-entry applicants need at least an A- average in philosophy courses.
