Philosophy is offered by the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto's St. George campus, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA) with Specialist, Major, or Minor options. The discipline examines the grounds for the beliefs that make up people's fundamental views of the world, using methods of conceptual analysis, reasoning, and detailed description to think about those beliefs as thoroughly and systematically as possible. It maintains an abiding interest in the basic assumptions about the nature of the physical and social world, and about the nature of enquiry itself, that underlie scientific and practical activity. Coursework spans major historical periods from ancient through contemporary philosophy and covers areas including epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of science, and global philosophical traditions.
