Program details

Overview

Neuroscience at the University of Toronto is an Honours Bachelor of Science program offered at three campuses. Mississauga offers it only as a Specialist; Scarborough offers a Major or Specialist, along with a Health Sciences Stream variant; and St. George offers a Major or Specialist. Scarborough and St. George both include a work-integrated learning option within the program. The subject is grouped under the university's Health & Life Sciences area, described as covering the science of living systems through research, laboratory work, and interdisciplinary study. Ontario applicants need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six courses at the 4U/M level, including English and Biology across all campuses, with most campuses also requiring Chemistry and an advanced mathematics course, and Physics recommended at St. George. The program suits students interested in the biological basis of behaviour and brain function, with a choice of campus-specific program structures ranging from a Specialist-only option to Major or Specialist tracks that can include practical, work-integrated learning experience.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Offered as an HBSc at all three campuses, this program shares U of T's Ontario baseline: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/M courses including English (ENG4U/EAE4U); the co-op component of a Grade 12 course is excluded from admission consideration. Mississauga (Specialist) requires Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Biology (SBI4U) and Chemistry (SCH4U), recommending Calculus & Vectors; Scarborough (Major/Specialist) requires Biology (SBI4U) and one Math course (MCV4U/MHF4U/MDM4U), recommending Chemistry; St. George (Major/Specialist) requires Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U), Biology (SBI4U) and Chemistry (SCH4U), recommending Physics. International applicants apply through the same OUAC system with the equivalent senior secondary credential and the same subject prerequisites. No minimum grade percentage is published; applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University's general proficiency minimums (IELTS Academic 6.5, no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 89 overall with 22 in Speaking and Writing for tests before 21 January 2026).
