Hons in Technology, Coding and Society (HBA)

Technology, Coding and Society (HBA) is an honours undergraduate major at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), offered through the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (ICCIT). The program examines the impact of technologies, including hardware, platforms, and associated software, on individuals and on society. Students learn computer coding skills alongside humanistic and social-science theories on the use of digital platforms, and are trained to analyze the data such platforms produce. Course concepts are applied through practical labs and optional work-integrated learning placements. Students in the program may simultaneously complete a Professional Experience Certificate in Digital Media, Communication, and Technology from ICCIT. ICCIT also offers the related Communication, Culture, Information, and Technology major, reflecting the institute's shared focus on the social study of digital technology alongside technical training. Admission is processed under UTM's OUAC code TMC.
