Overview
The Master of Arts (MA) in East Asian Studies is offered through the Department of East Asian Studies, covering the cultures of China, Japan, and Korea and their interactions with one another and the rest of the world through interregional and interdisciplinary work spanning history, literature, philosophy, cinema, and cultural studies. The program offers three tracks: coursework only, coursework with a Major Research Paper, and a thesis-based option, and students may switch between tracks provided all requirements are fulfilled. The full-time program is completed over 3 sessions, delivered in person. Admission requires a bachelor's degree, normally with a major in East Asian Studies, and academic standing equivalent to a University of Toronto B+ or better in the final year, along with strong proficiency in at least one East Asian language, a statement of interest, two letters of recommendation, and a writing sample.

Applicants must submit a statement of approximately 500 words on their fields of interest, two letters of recommendation, and a 10-15 page writing sample in English, and must demonstrate strong proficiency in at least one relevant East Asian language.
