MA/MS in Teaching (OISE) (MT)

The Master of Teaching (MT) is offered by the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, combining teacher qualification with advanced study of educational theory and an opportunity to conduct research. The program provides grounding in curriculum, human development, ethics and educational law, equity, diversity and inclusion, Indigenous education, educational technology, instructional planning and design, and learning theory. It is a 20-month, full-time program completed over five terms, beginning each Fall session in September, and is delivered in person, with less than one-third of courses offered online. Students complete 11.0 full-course equivalents, comprising 8.0 full-course equivalents of compulsory core courses, 1.0 full-course equivalent of electives, and 2.0 full-course equivalents across three practice teaching placements. Upon successful completion, graduates are recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers for an Ontario Teacher's Certificate of Qualification, qualifying them to teach in the Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, or Intermediate/Senior divisions of Ontario schools. Admission requires a minimum mid-B average in the final year of a bachelor's degree, and no standardized admissions tests are required.
