Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Biology and Earth Sciences allows you to discover the relationships between life on Earth and geological, oceanic and atmospheric processes and explore how these processes affect our planet. You'll build your knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of our Earth and the life it sustains. Through this program, you'll have the opportunity to work with experts at field schools, marine laboratories, or through a co-op placement.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This combined major carries no separate entrance gate: applicants apply to UVic's Biology program as a high-school or transfer student and declare Biology and Earth Sciences as a combined major after one year of full-time study. Biology's own line governs entry: BC and Yukon high-school applicants need Approved English 11, Pre-calculus 11, Chemistry 11, Physics 11 and an approved Social Studies 11/12, then English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at 73% or higher, Pre-calculus 12 at 77% or higher, and two approved Science 12 courses, with an estimated competitive Grade 12 average of a minimum of 85%. Transfer applicants with eight or more university-transfer courses need a C (2.00 on UVic's 9-point scale) on their most recent 12 UVic units/24 credits, including two of MATH 100, 101, 102, 109 or 151 and four approved Science courses. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet UVic's language-proficiency policy, typically IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band under 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with no section under 20.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, which opens for 2027-entry applications on 1 October 2026: most degree programmes see September 2027 entry close 31 January 2027, January 2027 entry close 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry close 31 March 2027, though Teacher Education post-degree programmes close 2 January 2027, Indigenous Education post-degree admits on an ongoing basis, and Engineering's Summer entry (high-school graduates only) closes 31 December 2026. International applicants use the same portal and face identical dates, since UVic publishes no separate international deadline. UVic treats these as fixed annual dates rather than rolling admission, though it warns any programme can close early without notice. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
