Overview
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences is about how the earth works, from the core to the atmosphere, and from the distant genesis of our planet to current and future trends in environmental and global issues. Earth and Ocean Sciences spans many aspects of understanding the history and dynamics of our planet, as well as how to best manage its resources and the environment we live in. You will study the atmosphere and the solid and liquid earth, using knowledge of the past and present to predict the future of our global system. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to for employment in various earth science disciplines, as well as for further studies.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UBC's own program page for Earth and Ocean Sciences lists degree-specific prerequisites and defers general conditions to UBC's institution-wide admission standard. Domestic (Canadian secondary school) applicants need secondary-school graduation with at least six Grade 12-level academic courses, including English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, plus Pre-Calculus 12 for this Science degree; each file is assessed on overall Grade 11/12 academic coursework plus a core assessment on courses relevant to Earth and Ocean Sciences, and UBC publishes no institution-wide entry average. The program page itself additionally requires, for the IB pathway, a completed IB Diploma with three Higher Level courses, IB Math Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL) or IB Math Applications and Interpretations HL, one of IB Biology, IB Chemistry or IB Physics, Grade 11 (or equivalent) Chemistry, and Grade 11 (or equivalent) Physics - the Physics requirement may be waived with grades of 5 in both IB Chemistry and the IB Mathematics course. The English-language requirement is IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no part below 6, or an equivalent accepted test.

Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
