Biostatistics at the University of Waterloo leads to a Bachelor of Mathematics in Biostatistics, at the undergraduate level, offered as both a co-op and a regular program, and described by the university as the only program of its kind in Canada. The curriculum builds on core statistics courses with specialized upper-year biostatistics courses, teaching students to design clinical experiments, analyze health data, and interpret statistical results for use in healthcare and medical technology settings. Co-op students can begin work terms in the spring term after first year, the fall of second year, or the winter term, gaining paid experience in health data and biostatistics roles. Graduates are prepared for work in clinical research, public health, pharmaceutical and healthcare data analysis, and further graduate study in biostatistics or statistics.
