Program details

Overview

Biomedical analysis trains students to examine samples from patients, such as blood and tissue, and to provide the scientific basis for diagnosis and treatment. Graduates work in hospital laboratories or carry out scans and other examinations of patients. The programme combines chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics with laboratory skills, quality assurance of analyses and cooperation with other health professionals. The full-time programme of three and a half years alternates theory with clinical teaching and includes a 42-week practical placement. Early semesters focus on laboratory skills, basic biomedicine and the link between analyses, diagnosis and treatment. Later semesters cover laboratory medicine across specialties, molecular biology and immunohistochemical methods, for example in cancer investigation.
