The Certificate in Teaching of TVET (Level 5) at Fiji National University aims to improve the quality of instruction in technical and vocational education, strengthening the skills of the labour force and supporting national productivity and employment. Delivered over one year for 120 credit points at the Lautoka, Samabula and Namaka campuses, the programme trains experienced trades practitioners to teach effectively in TVET classrooms. Units cover understanding the adult learner, applied teaching methods, curriculum development, professional teaching practice across two placements, pedagogy through action research, assessment and evaluation, and management, leadership and ethics specific to TVET settings. The qualification targets tradespeople who already hold technical credentials and want to move into instructional roles within technical colleges or training institutions. Entry requires a Trade Certificate or Trade Diploma in a relevant TVET content area, together with evidence of at least three to five years of relevant trade work experience, which may include a work attachment.
