This doctoral programme draws on the full breadth of disciplines housed within the Faculty of Social Sciences, spanning subjects such as sociology, social work, social psychology, political history, global development studies, economics, economic and social history, social and cultural anthropology, political science, media and communication studies, and social and public policy. Doctoral researchers also connect with related disciplines based in other faculties, including area and cultural studies, Russian and Eastern European studies, and human geography, broadening the community beyond social sciences in the narrowest sense. Several dedicated research units feed into the programme as well, covering areas such as European studies, criminology and legal policy, consumer society research, demography and population health, and social data science, giving doctoral researchers access to specialist expertise beyond their home discipline. The combination of disciplinary range and cross-faculty research units is intended to give doctoral researchers a genuinely interdisciplinary environment for their own individual research projects.
