Medical Sciences is a doctoral programme at the University of Iceland that gives knowledge, skills and practice in independent work, both in scientific research and in other practical settings at home and abroad. The PhD is a three-year, research-based study that combines theory and practice, worth 180 ECTS.
Doctoral students must finish, or already have finished, three courses and take part in the annual conference for doctoral students. The stated aims are to train students in the research methods of health sciences and to give them detailed knowledge in the field of their own doctoral project.
Applicants should hold an MS degree built on research, or something comparable, with good marks. Strong students with research experience and a positive supervisor reference may enter an integrated candidate and doctoral route after the third year of the medical candidate degree.
