MA/MS in Almenn bókmenntafræði

The master's programme in general literary studies is a 120-unit MA in the School of Humanities at the University of Iceland. It offers scholarly training in the discipline and prepares students for teaching at upper secondary level, for varied research work, for doctoral study or for other careers. Individual research projects are a regular part of the plan. Students choose an area together with a teacher, submit a list of articles and books, and meet the teacher about five times a term. Seminars change from term to term. Seminars listed on the plan include memory, the self and narrative; emotions in fiction and historical emotions; the supposed death and rebirth of tragedy; Franz Kafka and the art of storytelling; postfeminism and chick lit; fantasy; and the figure of the angry man in literature and the arts.
