Environment and Natural Resources is a two-year master's programme at the University of Iceland, worth 120 ECTS credits. It examines environmental questions and the use of natural resources from several academic angles, and it is taught entirely in English to a mixed group of Icelandic and international students.
Students pick one of five specialisations, among them Ocean Sustainability and Natural Resource Management alongside a track in environmental policy, or follow an open route. Coursework is split between core classes, restricted electives and free electives, and the degree ends with a research thesis of either 30 or 60 ECTS.
Because every School of the university takes part in running the programme, the faculty that awards the degree depends on where the thesis supervisor is based. Graduates receive either an MA or an MS degree, with the subject named Environment and Natural Resources. Teamwork across disciplines and nationalities is a regular part of the study.
