This 60-unit additional qualification at master's level in international relations, offered by the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland, responds to a growing need for well-educated staff who understand international affairs. It is open to graduates with a BA or BS degree in any subject, and completing it allows students to apply afterwards for the full master's programme in international relations.
Courses combine theory with regional and policy topics. Autumn options include theories of international relations, Icelandic foreign policy, Iceland's place in the international system, small-state theory and leadership, Arctic politics, hybrid threats, and peacebuilding in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Spring courses address the role and policy of international organisations, negotiation techniques and security studies.
The path is arranged as one year of study with an autumn and a spring term, and a project course in international relations is among the electives.
