Overview
The MSc in Applied Data Science is open primarily to graduates of a first degree in a natural, applied or social science from an accredited university, though the department also considers applicants from other backgrounds who can show they have done sufficiently quantitative coursework elsewhere. That keeps the programme accessible to analysts and researchers moving into data science from adjacent fields rather than restricting it to computing graduates alone.
Toward the end of the degree, candidates take a data science seminar and complete a capstone project that puts the methods they have learned to work on a substantial data problem, and round out their credits with electives chosen from the wider MSc Computing offering. The combination of a broad entry route with a project-driven finish is meant to produce graduates who can apply data science techniques in whatever sector they came from, rather than only within computer science itself.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: First degree from an accredited university in a Natural, Applied or Social Science; applicants from other disciplines may be accepted if they can show demonstrated quantitative coursework.
