Overview
Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) is located in Kingston, Jamaica, and is the only maritime education and training university recognised internationally across the Western Hemisphere.
The institution began in 1980 as the Jamaica Maritime Training Institute, was renamed the Caribbean Maritime Institute in 1992, and was granted full university status and its current name in 2017. CMU today serves close to 4,000 students across roughly 250 areas of study, delivered from seven campus locations with its main campus at Palisadoes Park on the Norman Manley Highway in Kingston.
Academic programmes are organised under four faculties: Engineering and Applied Technology, Marine and Nautical Studies, Shipping and Logistics, and Advanced Skills and Professional Development, reflecting the university's focus on training industry-ready graduates for the maritime, shipping, logistics and engineering sectors. CMU supports students financially through its Earn and Learn programme and the Special Assistance Lunch Programme for students in need, alongside a dedicated scholarships unit that advises applicants on scholarship searches and interview preparation.
