Program details

Overview

This MSc in Computer Science from the Department of Computing is organised around forty credits split between a shared core and an area of specialisation. The core consists of three courses, a general course plus two in computer science, worth twelve credits, giving every candidate a common foundation before they branch into their chosen specialisation. Beyond the core, candidates take five further computer science courses worth twenty credits, with at least two of them drawn from a single specialisation area so that the degree builds real depth rather than a scattering of topics, and complete a research project worth eight credits that may be based in industry or carried out academically. Not every course runs each year: some rotate in alternate years or run only when enough candidates want them, though the core courses are guaranteed annually, and candidates are asked in advance which areas interest them so the department can plan around demand.
