The LLB Law (Standard Entry) at the Institute of Law Jersey is a Bachelor of Laws that comes from the University of London and is taught on the island. It is designed for people who do not already hold a degree, whether they are leaving school, moving up in their current job or changing career.
The course can be completed full time in three years or spread across as many as six years part time, which lets students combine learning with work or family responsibilities. Classes are kept small, and the Institute provides work experience and mentoring alongside teaching.
Once the first year is finished, students choose modules that suit their interests, for example commercial law, international law, or the subjects that lead towards qualifying as a solicitor or barrister. Which pathways run can differ from one year to the next. Study centres on the English common law system, which is applied in many countries around the world. The course is eligible for Student Finance Jersey funding.
