Overview

Chemical Engineering sits within AIU's School of Engineering and Computing, which groups it alongside six other engineering and computing majors sharing a common general-education and school-core foundation. The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering requires a minimum of 131 credits, built from general education, engineering-and-computing core requirements, and major coursework, for a published total of 132 credits toward the degree. As with AIU's other majors, every student completes the university's seven general-education competencies, covering critical thinking, effective communication, ethical reasoning, and quantitative and IT literacy, before specializing in chemical-engineering coursework. The department lists mining engineer and technical sales-and-support roles among the career paths open to graduates, reflecting the range of process- and materials-focused industries the major feeds into. Coursework is organized through the shared engineering-and-computing core before students move into the chemical-engineering-specific major sequence in later years of the program.
