The Diploma of Accounting is a 60-credit-hour, four-semester programme in AU's Department of Banking, Finance and Accounting, built to give students specialised accounting knowledge they can apply to roles across the financial sector. The department frames accounting as central to economic decision-making, feeding directly into how organisations judge their own financial strength and plan for growth, and the diploma is aligned with CQUniversity's own programme requirements.
Graduates are expected to understand the core theories, principles and processes behind the different functional areas of accounting, and to be able to complete the accounting cycle themselves, producing and reading financial statements accurately enough to judge how well a business is performing. The curriculum also looks at the wider context around the numbers, including regulatory, governance, ethical and sustainability considerations, and has students use computer-based systems to work through everyday accounting and financial-control problems, preparing them for entry-level roles such as financial accountant, cost accountant or tax advisor.
