PhD in Linguistics (English)

The PhD in Linguistics (English) is a four-year programme at the University of Macau, taught in English and centred on producing a substantial, original thesis under close supervision. Students benefit from careful supervision, from courses offered across the university and within the faculty that strengthen writing, research ethics, teaching ability and subject knowledge, and from experience in academic teaching and in organising conferences. They also receive help preparing articles for submission to respected journals. On finishing, students should be able to show advanced theoretical and methodological knowledge, understand research ethics, communicate to different audiences, and plan, conduct and report research. Most graduates take up university teaching posts, chiefly in mainland China, although the degree also opens routes into management, public service and the media.
