The Ph.D. in Public Administration at the University of Macau trains students to carry out advanced scholarly research in public administration and prepares them for academic and research-oriented careers. Intended outcomes include identifying the major cases and trends in the field, with specialist expertise in areas such as public management, governance and public policy analysis, and explaining its key concepts, theories and approaches.
Students are also expected to produce original research of both theoretical and practical value, to build the competence to compete in the job market and to teach or research in universities or similar institutions, and to show an awareness of research ethics and professional standards.
Course plans are published separately for students admitted in or after 2026/2027 and for earlier cohorts. Admission is competitive and follows Graduate School procedures; applicants should first identify a department professor whose research matches their interests and who is recruiting.
