This Higher Diploma gives a broad grounding in the travel and tourism industry, from the core principles of tourism through to hospitality management, travel planning and sustainable tourism practice. The scale of the qualification -- the largest of IDEA's tourism awards at 120 ECTS -- allows these themes to be explored in more depth than at certificate or diploma level.
Real-world application is built into the course design, with the aim of preparing graduates for work across travel agencies, tour operators and hotels, or for launching a tourism business of their own. Eleven compulsory modules make up the award, covering the span of knowledge the sector expects from a higher-diploma-level graduate.
Set at MQF Level 5, entry requires an MQF Level 4 qualification (one A-Level or equivalent) plus English and Mathematics at MQF Level 3. IDEA notes that part-time study is intended for Malta-based and EU students, with non-EU applicants directed to full-time study for visa reasons.
