Program details
Overview
This research master's in Physiology is aimed at graduates in Medicine, Pharmacy, Dental Surgery or another area the Board of Studies considers relevant, who want to build advanced knowledge and research skills for use in academic or clinical settings. Applicants are expected to arrange their own supervisor in Malta and put forward a proposed research topic before enrolling, so the direction of the project is settled before the course starts.
Being mainly research-based, the degree lets you specialise in a chosen area of physiology, with core study units in research methods and statistics supporting the independent project that sits at the heart of the course.
Studied full-time over three semesters for 90 ECTS credits at master's level, the degree suits those working, or seeking to work, with life-science companies developing new drugs, as well as those in pharmaceutical companies, hospital laboratories or the health ministry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UM applies course-specific entry requirements under its regulations and bye-laws. Local applicants are assessed on qualifications such as the Matriculation Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or European Baccalaureate; international applicants hold overseas qualifications evaluated individually for comparability with UM's standards, with no extra requirements beyond the course's own criteria. MATSEC-qualification applicants must apply as soon as they receive their first result slip after the May/June session; students sitting September resits should apply by the course's first deadline rather than waiting on resit results. After evaluation, the Office of the Registrar issues a decision letter. Admission may also be granted via Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learning (RPL) for undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.
