Program details
Overview
Anatomy is the subject of this Master of Science, which is taught part-time during the day over five semesters, at MQF Level 7 and 90 ECTS credits. A full-time route is offered too, with further information on the Registrar's website.
The course gives graduates in dental surgery, medicine, pharmacy and other areas approved by the Board of Studies education, training and research at an advanced level. Skills gained in research can be used in academic settings and in clinical ones. Being mainly by research, the course lets students specialise in a chosen area. Its core subjects are research practicals, statistics and research methods.
Applications are only referred for consideration if the applicant has a supervisor in Malta and submits a research proposal.
Applicants should hold a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, a Bachelor or Master of Dental Surgery, or a Second Class Honours degree or better in a health-science-related discipline; a qualification judged equivalent by Senate is also accepted. If the first degree is more than ten years old, the applicant has to show sufficient competence, and a preparatory programme may be required by the Board. International applicants can submit an application online, and the university advises applying early, especially if a visa is needed to travel to Malta.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UM applies course-specific entry requirements under its regulations and bye-laws. Local applicants are assessed on qualifications such as the Matriculation Certificate, International Baccalaureate, or European Baccalaureate; international applicants hold overseas qualifications evaluated individually for comparability with UM's standards, with no extra requirements beyond the course's own criteria. MATSEC-qualification applicants must apply as soon as they receive their first result slip after the May/June session; students sitting September resits should apply by the course's first deadline rather than waiting on resit results. After evaluation, the Office of the Registrar issues a decision letter. Admission may also be granted via Recognition and Accreditation of Prior Learning (RPL) for undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.
