MA/MS in Economics

Groningen's one-year MSc Economics approaches economics as a tool for analysing and solving societal challenges, examining how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions when resources are limited. The programme builds an analytical mindset and trains students to use data to study and assess economic policy, aiming to keep decision-making grounded and level-headed when it comes to significant social problems. Areas of focus include understanding why global wealth is distributed so unevenly between countries, what drives inflation and how it can be managed, which strategies are effective at reducing carbon emissions, how healthcare can be made more accessible and affordable, and why a pay gap persists between women and men in the labour market. Across these areas, the programme combines theoretical economic knowledge with evidence-based policy analysis aimed at addressing current national and international economic problems.
