Overview

This two-year selective Master's in Marine Biology lets students build an individually designed, research-focused programme under a dedicated mentor, covering areas such as marine ecology, conservation, oceanography and evolution. Fieldwork and laboratory research take place through Groningen's own research groups together with NIOZ, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, addressing issues including overfishing, climate change and loss of biodiversity across marine systems from the Wadden Sea to tropical waters. Students choose between an academic research track and a science, business and policy-oriented track, within a programme structured to have an interdisciplinary and practical foundation that leads toward further PhD research or work in marine conservation, consultancy or policy.
