Overview
The track examines how new media technologies give rise to innovative formats and storytelling practices, and how start-up culture in media innovation is rooted in creative processes. Students study the production and reuse of media content within a digital era, looking at the historical development of media industries, the evolution of genres, and how changing patterns of media use intersect with economic, policy, organisational, labour and legal issues such as piracy, web streaming and the remixing of content. Teaching builds on the idea that innovation begins with creativity, while also addressing how cultural and media start-ups balance commercial interest against creative drive, combining academic study with creative practice.
