MA/MS in Applied Linguistics - TEFL

This track focuses on research into how second and foreign languages are learned and taught, with students able to direct their research toward a language of their choice such as English, Dutch, French, German, Swedish or Chinese. The subject is approached from multiple angles, including social interaction, cognitive and social psychology, linguistics, and language teaching and assessment, with particular attention to how factors such as a learner's age, motivation and amount of input shape the course of language development. Graduates are prepared for work in linguistic research, language policy making, educational publishing, and language teaching and testing. The track does not train teachers directly, but students can still discuss teaching-related questions, and a language-teaching internship is possible in some cases.
