Overview

The two-year shortened Music Teaching programme at the Royal Conservatoire trains conservatoire bachelor graduates to teach groups of young people. It combines didactics, teaching methods and pedagogy with leadership and communication, and it places artistry at its centre by asking how students use their musicianship in their lessons. The course is intensive and goal-driven, with lessons usually on Mondays, one weekend seminar a year and internships on other days. It ends with the regular examination, which leads to a full teaching qualification in music.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Conservatoire bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Music) required. Admission follows an intake interview and audition that focuses on voice and singing, other musical abilities and the ability to engage a group. Prior diplomas can earn exemptions for certain subjects. Funding may be possible for part of the cost, depending on personal circumstances.
