Overview
The field centres on acquiring, analysing, managing, and visualising geographic data to build a clearer understanding of the built and natural environment. Students learn advanced methods for collecting and analysing data, modelling spatial information, and visualising results, including remote sensing techniques that extend observation beyond what the human eye can detect. Data management and analysis methods turn these measurements into usable knowledge, supporting pattern identification, tracking of change over time, and prediction of future conditions, along with an understanding of how geographic data is used and governed. These methods are put to use in disaster management, geodesign, location-based services, and land administration, drawing on simulation, serious gaming, GIS, mapping, and 3D modelling alongside visualisation tools such as CityEngine, real-time mapping, energy-efficiency applications, and the study of how people move through space.
