MA/MS in Biology

This multidisciplinary Biology master's spans molecular bioscience in both its fundamental and applied forms, the biology of organisms and behaviour, evolution, biodiversity and conservation, preparing graduates for a career in or outside academia. It is run jointly by the Institute of Biology Leiden, the Institute for Environmental Sciences and the National Museum of Natural History, known as Naturalis, within the Faculty of Science, which allows students to cross into other science areas. The nearby Bio Science Park, with its companies active in the biomedical field, and its links with the Leiden University Medical Center widen the study and internship options available, while access to biodiversity collections at the National Herbarium, the Hortus Botanicus and Naturalis adds further resources. The two-year programme lets students pair biological-research training with coursework addressing science communication, educational practice or business grounded in science.
