MA/MS in Classics and Ancient Civilizations: Assyriology

The programme studies the ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia and Anatolia through their languages and literatures, combining basic and advanced training in the three main cuneiform scripts: Akkadian, Sumerian and Hittite. Students work directly with original clay tablets held at the Netherlands Institute for the Near East in Leiden, and may combine Assyriology coursework with modules from other programmes across the Faculties of Humanities and Archaeology. A study visit abroad and participation in research at partner universities are also encouraged.
