MA/MS in Media Studies: Cultural Analysis: Literature and Theory

The master's programme approaches literature through a comparative and theoretical lens, giving particular emphasis to literary movements and genres spanning the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries, drawing on languages and cultures from multiple parts of the world rather than a single literary tradition. It is organised around four themes: cultural theory, with particular attention to literary theory; comparative literature; interculturality, a cross-cultural approach; and intermediality, a cross-media approach. Many courses are shared with the related Research MA in Arts, Literature and Media, a two-year programme, though the one-year format does not generally include a built-in placement or study-abroad semester, except for students who extend their studies into a third semester. Students may also swap one course in the curriculum for an equivalent offered by a related Leiden programme or another Dutch university.
