MA/MS in Modern Languages: Chinese Language and Linguistics

This specialisation of the MA in Modern Languages concentrates on the sounds and syntax of the varieties of Chinese, going beyond Mandarin to examine language variation from both a historical and a present-day perspective. Students build understanding of the different Chinese languages through their phonetics and phonology as well as their syntax, within a department with a long-standing focus on Chinese linguistics, where Chinese has been taught since 1855 and four linguists currently work specifically on Chinese Linguistics.
