MA/MS in Modern Languages: Italian Language and Linguistics

This specialisation within the MA in Modern Languages studies Italian linguistics from both diachronic and synchronic perspectives, covering its links to social and cultural life, the ways it differs from one era or place to another, and how it is transmitted, taught and learned. A central strand traces the processes through which the Italian literary language became the national language. Courses take a global, comparative approach, training students to assess linguistic issues from multiple angles and to design a language-training plan, drawing on a comparative study of present-day teaching methods.
