Program details

Overview

Economics and Governance applies modern economics to social issues including the reform of pension and healthcare systems as populations age, global environmental challenges, how globalisation affects labour markets and income inequality, together with pressures stemming from immigration. The one-year programme builds advanced knowledge and analytical tools for using data and statistics in policy analysis, developing economic reasoning skills and the ability to critically evaluate policy instruments, with a focal point on welfare states and markets, including how government acts to create, enable and regulate markets and the present condition of pension provision, social security and the distribution of income. Graduates gain a multidisciplinary preparation for careers combining applied economics and public governance, such as policy-making in socio-economic fields or in market regulation.
