Program details
Overview
Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering deals with finding, extracting, producing and transporting oil and natural gas. It involves designing, building and running systems used for drilling, assessing reservoirs, operating production and recovering resources, with attention to efficiency, safety and environmental responsibility. Graduates combine geology, geophysics and mathematics with engineering to find, develop and improve the recovery of hydrocarbons used for transport, electricity and petrochemical raw materials.
In Oman, such engineers support national development, particularly in upstream oil and gas, field development projects, digital oilfield technologies and enhanced oil recovery, and increasingly in carbon management and reservoir optimisation in line with Oman Vision 2040.
ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission has accredited the Bachelor of Engineering programme since October 2012.
