The MA in Creative Writing and Publishing is a graduate coursework programme of the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University, open full-time and part-time. It builds on the university's established record in nurturing Singaporean writers and extends it to the publishing side of the literary world, aiming to train people who will shape how Singapore literature reaches readers across Asia and beyond.
Students complete 30 Academic Units: 12 AUs of core courses, 12 AUs of electives and 6 AUs for either an internship or a dissertation. Core subjects include the business of publishing, covering marketing and sales. Electives come from a Creative Writing concentration, with courses such as Forms of Narrative, Voice, and Place and Time, or from a Publishing concentration, so students can steer their studies toward writing or toward publishing.
The dissertation route takes the form of a creative thesis, while the alternative is a work placement in a field connected to the course. Applicants do not need any background in creative writing or publishing.
