MA/MS in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is a two-year master's programme at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Maribor. It carries 120 ECTS credits and leads to the Master of Science degree. The programme is interdisciplinary and gives students in-depth knowledge in broad professional fields. They learn to solve professional and other problems through looking for fresh knowledge sources and using scientific approaches, and they are trained for independent and demanding decision-making and management work. Specific competences include laboratory techniques, molecular biology, cell biology and biophysics methods applied to complex biomedical problems, genomics and proteomics, and the information technology methods used to store, analyse, combine and visualise genomic and proteomic data. Graduates can find employment in health institutions, public administration, the private and financial sectors, the food industry, pharmacy, and education and research. Third-cycle doctoral study is a further option.
