The doctoral programme in Geography at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Primorska (UP FHŠ) aims to provide theoretical and methodological grounding in geography and to build the competences needed for independent research, for creating new fundamental knowledge and contributions to science, and for applying those competences at home and internationally.
Its stated objectives include giving doctoral students a deep understanding of the theoretical and methodological ideas of geography, a complex science that touches several fields of natural and social science. Students also gain the ability to produce original fundamental and applied knowledge in geography on their own with modern methods such as geographic information systems (GIS), and to tackle specific spatial problems in their geographical surroundings.
The degree is a Doctor of Sciences (PhD), at SQF level 10 and EQF level 8. Study lasts three years and carries 180 ECTS credits.
